Formula used
Monthly incremental visits = traffic with SEO − baseline traffic. Incremental contribution = incremental visits × conversion rate × value per conversion × contribution margin. SEO ROI = (total incremental contribution − total SEO cost) ÷ total SEO cost × 100.
Scenario bands apply 60%, 100%, and 140% of the growth-rate gap above the baseline. They are sensitivity tests, not probabilities or guarantees.
Compare an SEO growth scenario with a no-new-investment baseline, translate incremental organic visits into contribution, and test return across a transparent time horizon.
Separate SEO-created value from traffic that may happen anyway
SEO ROI is most useful when it compares incremental commercial value with the full cost of earning it. Counting every organic visit as a new SEO outcome can overstate return, especially when the site already has traffic, brand demand, seasonal growth, and established rankings.
The calculator compounds a baseline traffic path and an SEO traffic path month by month. It values only the difference, applies your conversion rate and value per conversion, reduces revenue by the contribution margin, and then subtracts setup and monthly SEO costs.
Baseline first
Model the organic growth you expect without the proposed SEO investment.
Incremental visits
Credit SEO only with the forecast traffic gap above or below that baseline.
Contribution, not vanity revenue
Apply margin so delivery costs are reflected before the return calculation.
Sensitivity scenarios
Compare conservative, expected, and upside versions of the same declared growth gap.
How it works
Build a transparent
SEO business case
Each result traces back to an editable assumption and a visible formula.
Define cost and horizon
Include monthly retainers, content, tools, implementation, and one-time setup over 3–36 months.
Model baseline and SEO growth
Start with current organic visits and forecast both what happens without and with the investment.
Translate lift into contribution
Apply conversion rate, value per conversion, and contribution margin before comparing value with cost.
What a useful SEO ROI model should make visible
The forecast is a decision aid—not proof that rankings, traffic, or revenue will occur.
Complete investment
Include agency or team time, content, engineering, tools, and setup costs attributable to the initiative.
Organic baseline
Account for existing momentum, decline, brand demand, seasonality, and traffic that is not caused by new work.
Compounded horizon
Calculate traffic month by month instead of multiplying one snapshot by an annual total.
Conversion economics
Use organic conversion data and a defensible revenue or qualified-lead value for the outcome modeled.
Contribution margin
Reduce revenue by variable fulfillment costs so ROI reflects value available to cover the SEO investment.
Scenario range
Stress-test the growth gap rather than presenting one forecast as a guaranteed result.
